The data gathered in this experiment will be treated with confidentiality. Shortly after you begin participation, your name and other identifying information will be separated from the data and replaced with a number. That is, your data will not be attached to your name, but rather to a number (for example, Driver 0011). The data will be encrypted (made unreadable) from the moment it is collected until it is transferred to a secure permanent storage location.
While driving the vehicle, a camera will videotape your face with some additional space around the head to accommodate any head movements. An example is shown to the right. Additionally, video cameras will capture forward and rear views, an external view to the right, as well as a view of the participant's hands and instrument cluster.
It is expected that there will be follow–on data analyses using all or part of the data for up to 40 years into the future. The confidentiality protection provided to you in future analysis will be as great as or greater than the level provided and described in the Informed Consent for this study. Any further research efforts using identifiable data will also require additional approval by an Institutional Review Board (IRB).
To help us protect your privacy, we have obtained a Certificate of Confidentiality from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services National Institutes of Health.
In consenting to this study, you are consenting to future research uses of the information and videos we gather from you, consistent with the protections described in the Informed Consent.
